Design Philosophy

A great guitar earns its place by drawing from the best ideas that came before it while adding something of its own.

We draw on decades of guitar design starting from the American originals of the 1950's and 1960's that defined the electric guitar to the inventive catalogue models, oddballs, and tributes that emerged around the world in the wake of the electric music revolution. We take those ideas, reconsider what makes them work, and bring them together in guitars that feel familiar, yet distinctly our own.

Building on a family legacy of excellence in music.

Music runs back a few generations in our family. Two people in particular shaped how we think about instruments.

Our Grandfather

Phillip Frank

Phillip was a violinist who rose to concertmaster and first violin with the NBC Symphony Orchestra and recorded with the "Duke of Windsor" Stradivarius. His brother Bernard played piano and the two often recorded and performed together.

Our Father

Jim Frank

Jim was a recording engineer who spent his career chasing high fidelity, working with artists from Alice Cooper and Peter Gabriel to Bob Seger and The Guess Who. He earned a Gemini Award, a Golden Reel Award, and a Double Platinum record.
